When I first started working with Sarah on my diet plan, her first rule was no drinking! Honestly my first thought wasn’t saying good bye to my favourite wine- it was “I’m never going to have sex again!”
After a long tiring and stressful day, are you “in the mood”? After a glass (or two) of wine– maybe.
And what about “drunk sex”? That amazing night when you wake up the next morning with your pyjamas on inside out! Who doesn’t love that?
I did quit drinking. Drinking may “help” in the bedroom sometimes but it’s full of empty calories, and personally I started to get addicted to that feeling of going to a workout not feeling hungover. Even one drink affects my gym performance. One drink makes me want to eat chips or chocolate. One drink make me forget how eating clean makes me feel good and has changed my life. Over the summer, I have drank a bit but it’s never on an evening where I know I’m going to class in the morning.
Here’s what I learned. There are nothing sexier than- muscles, confidence, and energy! Working out and eating clean can do more for your marriage than reading 50 Shades of Grey.
My advice- workout and get some muscles. Men love muscles on a woman. If you say, “Check out my tricep Babe.” I guarantee some romance!
Personally, I love how strong my body feels! It makes me feel beautiful and sexy. That feeling started a long time ago when I first started working out. I hadn’t started eating clean yet and I hadn’t started losing weight yet- but under that layer of fat- I could feel muscles and they made me feel great. Working out has given me more body awareness as well. When I move, I can feel those muscles moving to. It’s a really powerful feeling. And really is there really a “funner” exercise than some “sexercise”? Lol!
On an unrelated topic lets talk about nuts. (Ha!) Nuts are packed with protein, fibre and essential fats. I find a snack of nuts fills me up and really stays with me. I have discovered “Kind Bars”. They are a nut bar that is a clean snack. The problem with Kind bars is they are kind of expensive. At about $2.00/bar, they are less expensive than a Big Mac but I figured I could make them for cheaper. I found this link http://www.theyummylife.com/Homemade_KIND_Bars on Pinterest. I made the Salted Chocolate bars and the Dark Chocolate Cherry Cashew bars. Since then, I use the recipe but use a combination of nuts I have on hand. I do avoid the peanut ones (or I substitute other nuts) since peanuts are inflammatory. You can find the complete directions at theyummylife.com but I’ll show you how I did it.
You will need these ingredients (or substitute your favourite nuts) for the dark chocolate and sea salt bars.
2 cups whole roasted unsalted almonds
3/4 whole roasted peanuts *** I used a combination of macadamia nuts and cashews
3/4 roasted walnuts, chopped *** I used pecans
1/2 cup puffed millet *** I used Natures Path
1 tbsp flaxseed meal
1/2 cup honey
1/3 cup brown rice syrup
3/4 tsp sea salt, divided *** I used some fancy Himalayan pink salt I got at Kardish
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup dark chocolate chips
1 tbsp coconut oil *** I had tons of chocolate drizzle leftover so you could probably half this.
You do need a candy thermometer or at least a digital meat thermometer- as you have to hit the right temperature for this recipe to work.
You have to mix it together very quickly before the mixture starts to harden. I also poured the mixture into a parchment lined pan and used more parchment on top and a glass to flatten it down.
I let it harden in the fridge then I drizzled the chocolate!
These are my husband’s favourite snack!
